ABSTRACT

An archaeological project in Maligrad, one of the small islands of the Great Prespa Lake. The project is undertaken in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology of Tirana and is part of a wider program of archaeological investigations currently taking place in southeastern Albania. The Institute for Transbalkan Cultural Cooperation (ITCC), archaeological mission is based at Liqenas (Pustec) which is home to a large part of the ethnic Slav Macedonian minority of Albania. Despite the numerous outreach activities promoted by the ITCC both in the field and in the laboratory, and directed to the involvement of locals in archaeological fieldwork, the analysis of pottery and the other artefacts from all the periods did not awake any interest among the local community. Central to the understanding of the relevance of archaeological discourse in identity-building issues of the Liqenas/Pustec community was the involvement of the media.
