ABSTRACT

Interviews with two providers and two ageing-care workers working in the Dutch forprofit sector found an increasing number of wealthier older people paying low care rates to professionals via care-in-cash and their own capital. This suggests the features of the for-profit sector in the Netherlands may increase the overall qualification level of lower skilled workers while also making it difficult for Dutch ageing-care workers to make the case that their knowledge and skills merit professional treatment when a pool of professionals is willing to work for lower wages.
