ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book sets out to complicate the intersection between race and media. At the structural level, our ability to access media will be influenced by media policies and procedures, as well as new media adaptation and use. The structural makeup of new media, as discussed by Nathan Jamel Riemer, highlights more accessible media to a generation of Black youth, which serves as a platform to address and promote important social issues. The same inequalities that inform the structure and production of media also inform its visual content and the representations that audiences see onscreen. The future of media representations will be heavily influenced by many social factors for the next generation of consumers, including the increasing technological advances, along with the increasing multi-racializing of our society.
