Editing this book has been a genuine pleasure that is a result of the commitment of the contributors and the wealth of materials that we have been presented with. While the primary objective of the volume was to bring together innovations in social identity theory and summarise the contribution that they have made to under - standing the complex and contentious subject of recovery from substance addiction, much broader conceptual and methodological issues and innovations have been presented in the course of the book.
