ABSTRACT
The World Wide Web provides access to a digital compendium of information that is unprecedented in terms of its scale, scope, and accessibility. It is, in addition, a resource that plays an ever-greater role in shaping our epistemic capabilities, both at the individual and collective (social) levels. Relative to such features, the epistemological significance of the Web should not be in doubt. Indeed, in an era dominated by concerns about the reliability of online information, the Web is a potential focal point for applied epistemology. The present chapter surveys some of the issues, challenges, and opportunities that arise in respect of this important area of applied epistemological research.
