ABSTRACT

Dilemmas appear at every turn, and a very common one is the dilemma which may appear when contracted to 'fix' a problem, whether that problem is a person or a situation. The opportunity to remain on a change journey or initiative over a long period is one of the characteristics of working on an internal basis and along with that is the opportunity to see and follow-up on situations which may help or hinder the management process. The lack of clarity about the boundaries which define organisation development work, leadership development, strategy development, and management development can also on occasions be very challenging as an external practitioner. The current volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous context within which most organisations now have to function, represented by the acronym VUCA, means that the management and leadership of change is now the province of all those in leadership roles.
