ABSTRACT

East Asia is a world region is characterized by the intensity, extensity, and velocity of interactions among contiguous nations within the region and the world at large. The rise of China has affected the political economy of East Asia. China also participates in transnational corporate networks in order to build a China-based globally compatible media industry. In 2010, the Ministry of Commerce ranked the company as the 10th largest Chinese non-financial transnational company in terms of the value of foreign assets and the 19th in terms of the value of outward-bound foreign direct investment. China Mobile Limited established operating companies specialized in digital services and digital content, including China Mobile Online Services Company Limited and MIGU Company Limited. In 2001, Shanghai Media Group Limited (SMG) was born of the state-led consolidation between Shanghai TV and Oriental TV, which was owned and controlled by Radio and Television Shanghai and was part of the even larger Shanghai Media and Entertainment Group (SMEG).
