ABSTRACT

Before going into the details of the specific work done in Nigeria, this section provides an overview of IBM's cross-border services program called the Corporate Service Corps (CSC), as well as how humanitarian work psychology (HWP) research can inform the design of such programs. The CSC program was launched in 2008 as a form of corporate social responsibility aimed at delivering pro bono ICT work to emerging markets while at the same time providing high-potential employees experiential leadership development. The Corporate Service Corps is an international problem-solving program designed as a form of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Project HOPE and Project Comfort were developed and deployed by the Nigerian Cross River State Government with funding support from the World Bank. These two programs were integral in helping with two of the seven deliverables listed in the 2007-2011 Economic Development Agenda created by the government.
