ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces interactive and multimodal environments (IMEs), that is, technological systems that are capable of establishing a multimodal interaction between humans and the environment, by providing real-time feedback in terms of sound, music, and visual media according to the analysis of the users’ movements, gestures, and speech. In particular, the chapter discusses IMEs that are embedded in a physical space, designed to implement interactive and multimodal activities, and aimed at improving the users’ physical engagement as well as learning.
