ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how minority languages may be a positive economic factor in a country and may also give their speakers economic advantages with regard to finding a job and getting better payment. Language diversity is an important topic of ecolinguistics. The languages of the Earth are not distributed equally over the continents. Many areas (e.g., states) have a language used by the majority of the inhabitants, but also ‘smaller’ languages used by minorities. Many language minorities are in danger of disappearing. However, certain factors may help to preserve them. One of these is the economic side of language minorities.
