ABSTRACT

While it is one of the smaller countries in Europe, the Netherlands has a population of nearly 17 million, of which nearly half lives in densely populated areas. With a GDP per capita of €38,300 and an approximate unemployment rate of 6.5, it is one of the more prosperous countries in the European Union (see Table 1.1). After an extended economic recession, the country is now slowly recovering; it has experienced positive economic growth since 2015.
