ABSTRACT

What role should journal editors play in enforcing research ethics? Three editors from different general interest journals in Political Science were invited to comment on what might be done. The particular topic of concern is with possible ethics violations in laboratory and field experiments. With an increase in the number of manuscripts that use experimental designs and with the potential for violating human subjects especially possible in comparative research, the editors were asked about what the journals were doing, could do, and should do. All three editors noted that potential ethical violations, to this point, appeared rare. Still, the roles that editors and associations have with respect to potential violations are important concerns.
