ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes research that documents the process of change in the education department at Utah State University (USU). The chapter also illustrates modifications in the teacher education program aimed at increasing effectiveness and accommodating student's needs. Several challenges need to be considered when teaching pedagogy via broadcast. For instance, people use drills, dialogues, and role-plays with children but may be tempted just to talk about these techniques in the distance classroom and hope students will see them modeled in their practical. It further shows how implementation of these practices with teacher education programs (TEP) students at remote locations was done. Gradual release of responsibility is essential to good teaching, and if people want to see this pedagogy implemented by future teachers, then one must model it as well as teach it explicitly in TEP classrooms. First one must introduce pre-service teachers to some general pedagogies, such as lesson planning and lesson implementation.
