ABSTRACT

This chapter presents data from a variety of projects in the UK looking at sport and physical activity participation of ethnic minority and migrant families and young people in superdiverse settings. We critically examine the cultural interpretations of sport, physical activity and health of these groups and the way they translate public health messages in relation to enacting physical culture. We conclude by providing effective theoretical and practical suggestions on the ways that we need to support those from minority and migrant backgrounds to improve health and wellbeing, by highlighting the ways these communities contextualise linguistic messages of public health.
