ABSTRACT

This piece investigates a digital portal called MappaMundi, which began as a teaching experiment at the University of Texas, Austin in January 2004. A digital portal for presenting the world 500–1500 CE, and part of the larger Global Middle Ages Project, this platform facilitates transhumanities work that crosses multiple disciplines to engage projects around an interconnected past. The research initiatives spawned from the MappaMundi portal cover workshops on the global medieval; conferences and symposiums on the global middle ages; and scholarly journal projects covering transnational and global medieval studies.
