ABSTRACT

The wonder and curiosity that have inspired the author's practice have been enhanced by opportunities to reflect upon his experiences and engage with others to make meaning in a variety of reflective spaces within his working life. He describes consultation to a supported living service for people affected by intellectual disabilities. The author outlines a method he call Playing with Perspectives that invites practitioners to view the client and their work from a variety of points of view. Harlene Anderson's As If consultations reflect a view of our social worlds as made up of the interplay of multiple voices. Madsen has developed a practice of Integrating a Client Voice within practitioners' conversations about clients to invite practitioners' awareness and sensitivity to the possible effects of how they talk about clients. Drawing on both As If consultations and the practice of Integrating a Client Voice, the author interviewed one staff member-consultee, inviting the others to take on different listening briefs.
