ABSTRACT

The history of Laos can be divided into three periods. The period of inauguration and organization, which lasted roughly from the middle of the fourteenth century until the middle of the sixteenth? The next period is that of the Burmese wars, lasting from the middle of the sixteenth until the middle of the seventeenth century. The newly crowned King of Chiang Mai now had to return to Luang Prabang to claim his right to succeed his father, and had himself crowned there under the name of Jetthadhiraja. Laos remained under Burmese rule for several years, but after a period of internal unrest in Burma, Nandabayin came to the throne there and released the young Prince No Keo Kuman from captivity when he found himself in difficulties with Siam. The main influence was that of Siam, especially in Vieng Chan, where the art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in particular draws its inspiration from Siamese art.
