ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a theoretical framework of the expression of evil in academic culture. It explains the definition of organizational evil within the context of academia, a framework that names and describes the factors of organizational evil in a university setting, and based on this framework, possible actions that can be taken by faculty member to evil. Organizational evil is defined as the evil that occurs within an organization. The chapter encourages both the discussion and examination of organizational evil and the academic violence through which it is expressed on a continuum. It discusses the factors that can be explored for the additional information that are needed to predict the weather pattern of organizational evil in academic violence as well as proposed risk management strategy to maximize the chances for individual faculty to get out of harm's way. Within this framework, a watch describes a situation with a lower risk that organizational evil will be expressed in academic violence.
