chapter  14
Product Planning Best Practices
Pages 25

A best practice is defined as that technique, method, process, or activity that is more effective at delivering a particular outcome than any other technique, method, process, or activity within that domain (Camp 1989). In the case of product planning, best practices are those product development practices that promote the greatest success in developing and launching new products and services. To date, various studies have been undertaken to search for best practices. The present chapter discusses results from a variety of sources, including two noteworthy studies by the American Productivity Quality Center (APQC) (Cooper, Edgett, and Kleinschmidt 2002, 2004a, 2004b, 2004c) and the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) (Adams-Bigelow 2005; Barczak, Griffin, and Kahn 2009).
