Strengths-Based Practice of Clinical Sport Psychology
ByMichele Kerulis
Pages 11

Athletes are known for being driven, strong, and committed to their goals. It takes perseverance to give maximum effort on a daily basis (sometimes multiple times a day) in practices and games. Athletes experience heartbreaking losses and exhilarating wins; it is clear that successful athletes have stellar physical strength. What is less visible is the mental toughness that transforms good athletes into phenomenal athletes. Clinical sport psychology practiced from a strengths-based perspective helps athletes use their assets to move past setbacks and enhance their existing talents. Clinical sport psychology is a multidisciplinary field with the purpose of promoting athletic success through psychological skills training while monitoring emotional wellness.
