ABSTRACT

Daniyal Mueenuddin’s In Other Rooms, Other Wonders opens a door into contemporary Pakistan. It reflects a society shaped by its own image of masculinity against a background of social and political change. But in Mueenuddin’s work there is a subtle undercurrent of a threat to this sustained sense of masculinity.2 Through the complex dynamics between male and female characters, these stories communicate a slow erosion of Pakistani masculinity and follow the strain that is a result of this inevitable change.
