BySusan Zawada

Unlike psychoanalysis, with its one seminal originator, family therapy and theory did not grow clearly from the work of one or two major figures. Instead the ever growing movement of workers interested in working with families has as its ancestors a great variety of pioneers of different disciplines, backgrounds and orientation. With such diversity of influences in the past it is not surprising that there is currently considerable heterogeneity in contemporary theory about, and treatment of, normal and dis turbed families.
