Psychic pain and psychic damage
ByGianna Henry
Pages 12

I am going to describe in some detail a short period of co-therapy that a male colleague and I conducted with a family residing briefly in England. Concepts that we had both found useful in analytic work with individuals were used as a frame of reference in the therapy. At the end of this chapter, I would like to discuss the usefulness of transferring a model from one setting to another. In particular, I shall try to differentiate depressive anxiety from depression and to focus a particular type of 'psychic damagef - that is the crippling consequences of defences against psychic pain. In discussing these issues, I shall refer to material in the more descriptive part of the paper.
