In this chapter I am going to describe the planned ending of therapy with a family where treatment had become a way of life, and where the family was unable to imagine itself existing without contact with an outside agency. By thinking with the family about the actual experience of separating from us, we hoped to work on the central dynamic that prevented them from functioning independently.
