ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to question the articulation of Deafhood and media technology by reflecting on its epistemological implications. First, the production of It Fell on Deaf Ears, a graphic novel in Québec Sign Language, is presented. Second the three-dimensional modality of sign language is discussed in relation to media strategies enabling Deaf epistemologies. Third, an epistemological shift is exposed while producing the graphic novel by using video as a mean of writing and its subsequent political considerations. The conclusion reflects on agency and digital media, asserting that the limits and uses of media technology must be pushed in order to foster the development of signed knowledge and Deaf becoming.
