ABSTRACT
A worry that might arise at this point is whether my argument against DET is talking past King’s use of SSSS. Perhaps the intended sense of expression there is more like the E2 sense, i.e. compositional semantic-value, from Section 3.2, than the E1 communicated content sense. My reason for thinking that the sense operative in SSSS must be the E1 sense is that the E2 semantic-value sense trivialises the principle. King must intend SSSS to be substantive, which suggests that when he formulates it in terms of expression he means the same notion as is used in ID. With that in mind I will now return to the main point.
