Likewise, while a speaker does not actually intend to communicate any particular candidate, she will have a kind of intention-like attitude towards each of the candidates with respect to which her communicative intentions are open. 19 As it might prove helpful to have a label for this distinctive kind of pro-attitude, we can say that in those cases in which a speaker’s communicative intentions are open, she endeavors to communicate each candidate without outright intending to communicate any one of them.20
