Abhidharma Panprotopsychist Metaphysics of Consciousness
According to the Abhidharma Buddhist philosophers, momentary mental atoms *dharmas* are part of the basic constituents of the universe together with physical *dharmas*. Mental *dharmas* on this view are best thought of as proto-conscious atoms including proto-cognitive and protoaffective elements that constitute conscious experiences. Conscious experiences on this view supervene of clusters of co-temporally available *dharmas*. In this Chapter I argue that the Abhidharma account offers a defensible version of panprotopsychism that is successful in bridging the non-phenomenal/phenomenal gap.
