ABSTRACT
Planning is an essential component of successful school-based group work. Key elements of planning, drawn from group work best practices (Best Practices Standard A7.a, ASGW, 2007) and group work training standards (ASGW, 2000), are identified and discussed within this chapter, including: screening, selecting, and preparing members; selecting methods for deriving meaning and transferring learning; determining needed resources; measuring outcomes; and using closed or open groups.
