While the South African Apartheid movement is in no way comparable to contemporary America, I wonder whether Americans, too, are momentarily startled to see, for example, a Black or Latino1 person in a role traditionally held by a White person. From the highest profile in the nation, President Obama, to a Latino CEO of a major US industry, it is disquieting to realize that not everyone is wholly comfortable with what might reflect a “role reversal.”
