ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows the key issue in a sub-Saharan African context is not about creating awareness of the benefits of entrepreneurship among young people but rather providing young entrepreneurs with the skills and wherewithal to operate effective businesses. The importance of paying attention to the social context that young people and their access to support are embedded in was highlighted in a Zambian context. Microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Kampala have designed their services and products to match the particular needs of young people. The microfinance case from Kampala demonstrated that it is actually possible for MFIs to reach the youth and revealed how the young clients generally have positive experiences of the services and products provided. The book highlights the need to make sure that the focus of entrepreneurship education is on teaching "for entrepreneurship" rather than "about entrepreneurship".
