ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the state of youth entrepreneurship in Zambia and presents an overview of key policies and interventions focusing on the promotion of youth employment and entrepreneurship. Drawing on the nationwide 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) survey, it scrutinises the levels and characteristics of youth entrepreneurship across the country, it scrutinises the levels and characteristics of youth entrepreneurship across the country, revealing the entrepreneurial attitudes of the youth. The country's national output, as measured by gross domestic product (GDP), has grown by an average of 67" annually in the recent past. It stimulates notable increases in foreign direct investment (FDI) flows. The National Youth Development Council (NYDC) faces a number of key challenges that includes weak leadership and corporate governance, failure to register youth organisations, lack of institutional capacity, and politicisation. The current pick-up in economic growth has propelled Zambia back into the ranks of middle-income countries.
