ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on female sexed and gendered aspects of Eros and its libidinal drives. First, describing the way Freud might have understood Marie, the author turns to a more contemporary lens, to consider the specific psychic dilemmas of a female life. Touching on Marie’s subjective sense of erotic, assertive, and creative desire, the case discussion also includes aspects of Marie’s relationships, as a mother, and as a daughter. Ambition and leadership attitudes are also considered. The juxtaposition between body awareness and attitudes about positioning oneself in the world are reflected in the struggle with the sexed and gendered war inside herself.
