ABSTRACT

The masterly and mature exposition of opinions held by a small group in advance of their time will sometimes have a formative influence over the mind of succeeding generations greater than the thought of an original thinker of the first rank. This is most likely to happen when the opinions so aptly expressed appear to the young as the next step in an already recognizable direction of progress. Indeed the influence of such a radical system may be such that its expositor will come to be regarded by posterity as representative of his generation.
