ABSTRACT

Video is a media form that plays moving visual images at 25–30 frames per second to render a fast-moving image. This rapid speed of images can capture the real-time movement of living things and many mobile devices such as phones now come with in-built video functioning. Websites such as YouTube and Vimeo also provide repositories for video sharing and display. The next section of the book provides a wide range of innovative ways that videos have been created by students to learn or communicate science. Most of the videos are narrated to explain science concepts and, hence, are multimodal and display the modes of fast-moving images (the video) accompanied by voice or speech (the narration). These modes can be further enhanced by adding the modes of writing, such as captions, to explain the science or music to enhance meaning of the media.
