ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the work being conducted in General Science Methods in Science Teacher Education at Monash University, Australia into how slowmation (abbreviated from ‘slow animation’) can help pre-service secondary teachers to develop pedagogical knowledge. The General Science Method course is where pre-service teachers learn how to teach science in the final year of their education degree when they complete teaching placements in two 5-week blocks during the middle of each semester, one in semester one and one in semester two. This chapter explores pre-service secondary teachers’ use of slowmation as a teaching procedure with secondary school science students during their second placement.
