ABSTRACT

Blended media is any combination of visual media such as animation, still photos or video that students can mix and match to complement a narration like an ‘educational mash up’ or ‘media collage’ to explain a science concept to a specific audience. It fosters creativity with content, as students can mix and match their own media with the media of others from YouTube or Google Image as long as it has a Creative Commons License or they have permission from the original creators. Blended media was created by the lead author, Garry Hoban, two years ago, assisted by Wendy Nielsen and Alyce Shepherd, to provide students with more-creative ways to engage with and explain science (Hoban, Hyland & Nielsen, 2014; Hoban & Nielsen, 2013; Hoban, Nielsen & Shepherd, 2013).
