ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to democratize education or to provide education for all, by way of increasing the number of places and the number of higher education institutions (HEIs), or by offering distance learning such as venturing into online learning. A recent UNESCO report highlighted that many countries in Southeast Asia have, over the course of the past two decades, seen their HEIs moving from previously catering to the elites to now catering for the masses. Indonesia's online learning program, including Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in its HEIs, would have providers contribute MOOCs and these will be aggregated by the Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2014, Zoraini Wati Abas received the Education Leadership Award from the World Corporate Universities Congress in Mumbai, India and was named second of 14 influential higher educational technology leaders in Southeast Asia.
