ABSTRACT

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have been regarded 'as the biggest revolution in higher education since Plato opened his academy'. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) has always been an advocate of openness in education. The MOOC model of delivering instructional content has provided the opportunity to push this advocacy further and make quality education accessible for the Filipino learners all over the world. The important role of MOOCs in developing countries cannot be overemphasized as this new form of instructional delivery offers an opportunity for open access to education and the continuous acquisition of knowledge and skills. Ideally, completed MOOCs should be credited towards a degree under the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) framework.
