The New Normal of Innovation Management: Towards a Dual—Open and Closed—Innovation Logic
To keep up with the rate of innovation in the digital era, companies must be capable of utilizing and benefiting from open and closed innovation at the same time. The article discusses major challenges and roadblocks organizations face through running open innovation and traditional innovation modes simultaneously. The study is based on the learnings and experiences companies and intermediaries made with open innovation in traditional company settings, where a systematic and structured closed innovation approach has been dominant for the last several decades. Three steps will be presented in order to merge both approaches and succeed in creating the new dual innovation logic-creating the new normal.
