ABSTRACT

Pioneering gerontologist Robert Butler (2008), in The Longevity Revolution, defined ageism as “another form of bigotry,” the negative stereotyping of older adults that includes perceiving them as “sexless.” Yet, over the past decade, a number of research studies have documented the myriad of ways that older adults experience their sexual lives. As men and women live longer and healthier lives, many spend greater portions of their lives as sexually active individuals. (Hoffer, 2014; Lindau et al., 2007; Schick et al., 2010).
