ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an over view of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book approaches the practices of assessment and evaluation in schools and universities, illustrating the means by which pupils, teachers and researchers are invited to reflect on the self to improve themselves and others and something of what happens through this. It focuses in one way or another on confessional dialogue in learning. Olsson, Petersson and Krejsler analyse how confession is mobilized and operates in relations between governments through the new 'harmonization' process for higher education across Europe. The book focuses on how confession is mobilized through state initiatives, aiming at shaping active and docile citizens. It explores in different ways thoughts on care for the self in the present time.
