ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses particularly on aspects of collaborative planning and agency which have precipitated transformational learning. It demonstrates the extent to which school-community educational projects challenge the status quo. The seed was sown for the project at a fundraising coffee morning organised by the Broomley Bees, a group of parents and community members whose aim is: To promote and follow the craft of beekeeping and also to advance the education of the pupils and staff of Broomley First School, together with their families, in the importance of bees in the environment. The Broomley Bee Project was a significant departure for the school, so it required some very strong foundations to bring about this collaboration. Jilly remains a bee evangelist and has converted another parent, Kate Agar, to the cause. Kate is the yin to Jilly's yang, meaning Jilly's enthusiasm and zeal are tempered by Kate's organisation and calm.
