ABSTRACT
My chance encounter with Ludwig von Bertalanffy in 1959 introduced me to general systems theory, and provided me with a perspective that has impacted my entire professional career. This article illustrates how systems thinking permeated my experimental and theoretical work with parapsychological phenomena, dreams and dreaming, and personal mythology. Without this perspective, these explorations of human consciousness would have been more simplistic and linear, and less holistic and complex.
