I remember looking at families when I was in elementary school, junior high, and high school and thinking how broken so many of them seemed. Family after family haunted by divorce, abuse, death, anger, violence, loss, and rage. How fortunate, I thought, that I had a “normal” family. Sure, my younger brother Ben and I often squabbled, as kids do, but we were the picturesque family of four.
