Free Trade and the New Labour Internationalism
ABSTRACT Free trade is entrenched and sustained by the political and economic power of
global corporations. Adaption and accommodation to this reality is a widespread response of
the trade union movement, both nationally and internationally. This article analyses a
counter trend where democratic unions in the Global South are united in their opposition to
the neoliberal model. In this they are mobilizing new forms of power in their struggle against
corporations and states which represent the market model as the sole option.
