ABSTRACT

This chapters traces key macro developments in the labour markets in Europe. It presents a picture of complex patterns of continuity and change within the HRM of these sub-regions of Europe. It shows that several forces are now having an impact on the behaviour of multinational companies (MNCs), not for profit, international non-governmental organizations and inter-governmental organizations alike. The chapter helps to broaden out frame of analysis in international human resource management (IHRM). It suggests that many of the mezzo-level challenges can only be handled through more collaborative and innovative work practices. For instance, one recommend a change in HRM approaches to bring Greece back more into line with Western European notions of strategic people and change management. The chapter addresses the issues is to examine a series of cross-national trends and developments that are nonetheless intimately linked to organizational-level responses.
