Winds of change: communication and wind power technology development in Denmark and Germany from 1973 to ca. 1985
Engineers play an important role in communicating technology to other professional groups and to society at large. Because of their expertise, engineers possess both the knowledge required and the credibility needed to speak competently and authoritatively about technical aspects of technology. Engineers, however, do not usually perceive communication as part of their core profession. This is partly due to the fact that communication as a skill in its own right does not feature prominently within engineering curricula and partly due to a lack of interest in language and communication on behalf of engineering students. Technical specialization often increases the communication problem.
