ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the main theme of a critically reflective practitioner. It is difficult to be prescript, and explore a range of dilemmas, positions and approaches; readers can thus move forward in the way they may wish to. Turning first, then, to the 'critically' bit. Being critically reflective may offer a goal, but it is not guaranteed; before one can get into the meat of the subject, there are possibly some dangers in not adopting a reflective approach. The primary purpose here is to support the real application of reflection, critical reflection, in particular. Becoming a critically reflective practitioner is as an insightful doer, communicator and facilitator and has something to do with applying a radical, sceptical exploratory and broad stance informed by critical process. Donald Schon was a bigger thinker than just the work on reflective practice, but it was this aspect particularly that seems to have stood the test of time.
