In this section, I provide some background to my work. The primary goal of this research is to provide a mathematical foundation on which various ideas in the study of natural language acquisition can be assessed. I believe that such theoretical modeling moving side by side with empirical investigations would be ideal for solving the ultimate problem of linguistic theory, learnability (Chomsky, 1986). In this way, my research complements that in linguistics and psychology.
